PADIHAM sprung something of a surprise to beat Settle and win the Ramsbottom Cup.

The two teams had met in the Ribblesdale League 24 hours earlier and Settle won by 268 runs having posted 332-9 and then bowled Padiham out for just 64.

But the roles were reversed in the cup on Sunday at Read as Padiham completed a 55-run success.

Callum Clarke made 49 for the victors while captain Kevin Hitchon added 23 as Padiham were bowled out for 189 off the final ball of their innings.

That total was always likely to be a competitive one and Settle slumped to 71-7 in reply.

But the league leaders and defending league champions put together some lower order runs to keep their chances alive but in the end they had left themselves too much to do and were bowled out for 134.

The win means Padiham claim the cup for the first time since 2008.
