LANCASHIRE League chairman Mike Bibby is anticipating a close-fought contest and “tremendous day” when Lowerhouse and Burnley go head to head for the first time in the Worsley Cup final (12.30pm start).

Lowerhouse last lifted the cup in 2012, with Burnley going on to win the competition for the next four years before the silverware moved to Clitheroe in their debut season last year.

Bibby says the strength of both clubs this time around means it is a hard tie to call.

“Who wins that one is a toss of a coin,” he said. “It will be very competitive.

“My thoughts are that because it’s at Lowerhouse they have the advantage, but Burnley will be such a strong side if they all come off.

“They are probably two of the strongest amateur sides in the league I would say.

“We are looking forward to it.

“There will be a lot going on on the field, as well as off it.”

Bibby added: “Lowerhouse have worked very hard to get things organised.

“They have sold the marquees and gazebos at the bottom of the field, and the sponsors, J W Lees, have been very helpful.

“There’s a VIP guest marquee on the car park with food and drink so everyone should be catered for.

“We hope the weather smiles on us because it should be a tremendous day.

“And it could be a record crowd.

“I’m sure it will be packed out as it has been for the T20 games there this season.

“It is the 93rd Worsley Cup final so it should be quite a showpiece.

“I hope it’s a good advert for the league and I’m sure it will be.”
