CALLUM Davidson raced to victory in the Towneley Park 10k last weekend with the Ribble Valley Harrier clocking 34 minutes 22 seconds.

That was enough to edge out Barlick Fell Runner pair Jon Cleaver and Craig Shearer who completed the podium in 34mins 53secs and 35mins 31secs respectively.

The race attracted a record entry of 250 runners with a host of East Lancashire athletes taking part.

And it was a double celebration for Ribble Valley Harriers as Eleanor Bolton claimed the female title in a time of 41mins 58secs. That was good enough for 37th overall as she finished 40 seconds ahead of Trawden's Christina Singleton who had the consolation of picking up the F35 prize.

Accrington Road Runner Sarah Ridehalgh rounded off the podium with a 42mins 42secs effort and first place in the F40 category.

Rachel Villiers (Barlick Fell Runners) clocked 43mins 12secs for fourth place with Anne-Marie Hindle the fifth female over the line in 44mins 30secs.

The top 10 places overall were dominated by East Lancashire runners with Ribble Valley Harrier Shaun Livesey finishing fourth, and first M40, in 35mins 50secs. That was six seconds ahead of Barlick Fell Runner David Mirfield while Blackburn Harrier Ben Costello was seventh in 36mins 18secs.

Stephen Hall was the third Ribble Valley Harrier in the top 10 as he came home eighth in 36mins 29secs, 16 seconds ahead of Clayton-le-Moors Harrier Luke Turner who was ninth.

Todmorden Harrier Matt Flanagan ran well to claim the M45 honours with his 38mins 42sec effort enough for 13th overall.

Nicholas Hennessey crossed the line a little further back in 40mins 8sec with the Clayton-le-Moor Harrier the first junior home. His clubmate John Hartley led the M60 field in 42mins 41secs to finish 49th.

Trawden's Isabel Hartley was the first female junior in 47mins 14secs and 95th spot overall while her clubmate Julie Townson was 117th in 49mins 5secs and claimed the F55 prize.

David Scott was the first M75 runner past the post with the Clayton-le-Moors Harrier finishing in 52mins 4secs and claiming 145th.

Barlick Fell Runner Jean Rawlinson won the F65 category after a strong 55mins 37secs effort for 182nd while Trawden's Jean Baistow raced to victory in the F70 competition with her time of 58mins 21secs enough for 205th place.

The race is part of the Pendle & Burnley Grand Prix series with Clayton-le-Moors Harrier Turner, ninth in Towneley, leading the overall standings ahead of Barlick Fell Runner pair Mirfield and Cleaver.

Villiers (Barlick Fell Runners) leads the women's standings ahead of clubmate Jacqueline Collins who didn't race at the weekend with Clayton-le-Moors Harrier Rhiannon Wickham third.

The series continued last night with the Greenway 5k Road Race in Padiham before concluding with the Worsthorne Fell Race on Sunday and the Boulsworth Fell Race on Sunday, August 12.
