BURNLEY suffered double defeat in their behind-closed-doors friendlies on Tuesday, but Sean Dyche saw most of his first team stars come through their first 90 minutes of pre-season.

The training ground fixtures with League One sides Shrewsbury and Blackpool were arranged to give the Clarets squad another chance to get minutes into their legs ahead of next week's Europa League second qualifying round first leg with Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

While the games ended in defeat - with the Shrews winning 1-0 and Blackpool 2-0 - it was a successful afternoon in terms of match fitness. Most of the squad will get another chance to play a full game this Friday, when Dyche again splits his squad in friendlies at Curzon Ashton and Macclesfield Town.

Steven Defour and Robbie Brady were both absent on Tuesday as they continue to ease their way back from long-term injuries, while Ashley Barnes also sat the games out as he struggles with blisters.

Iceland winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson is back in training at Barnfield after his World Cup journey, but wasn't ready in time to play in the games, but Matt Lowton did come through 72 minutes after missing the friendly with Cork last week due to a tight groin.
