BURNLEY are continuing to monitor Swansea winger Sam Clucas, but a deal to bring him to Turf Moor isn't close at the moment.

The Clarets are long-term admirers of the versatile 27-year-old and they tried to sign him a year ago from Hull City.

Clucas ended up moving to Swansea City instead but endured a frustrating campaign at the Liberty Stadium, starting 23 league games and coming on a further six times as the Swans were relegated from the Premier League.

It has been a frustrating summer for Burnley so far as Sean Dyche continues to try and add to his squad.

The Clarets Europa League campaign begins a week on Thursday, but speaking after the win over Cork City on Friday night Dyche said deals won't be pushed through just to have new faces available for the trip to Pittodrie.

"We’ve got to be careful with that," he said. "Ideally you get your numbers in early but we all know how hard that is, clubs way bigger than Burnley are struggling to get their numbers in early because of the way the market is.

"We’re not going to sign someone for the sake of it, that wouldn’t be good practice. It would be helpful to get players in earlier because they can bond with the group and get used to how I like the fitness levels and how we want the team, but the market is the market."
