Elliott Ward is on trial at Charlton Athletic after his release from Rovers this season.

And that could possibly have some impact on Tony Mowbray’s chase of Addicks defender Patrick Bauer.

Rovers and Charlton have come to something of a stalemate over Rovers’ interest in the 25-year-old, with the Valley club having put a £2million valuation on his head.

However, their willingness could to reach an agreement over Bauer may be helped by the possibility of Ward being brought in as replacement.

Ward finished last season on loan at MK Dons having joined from Rovers in January.

His contract at Ewood Park wasn’t renewed this summer after coming to an end following his arrival from Bournemouth in January 2016.

But he was part of a Charlton side who won 2-1 at Welling over the weekend and is likely to be given further chance to impress in next next week’s friendlies against Cambridge United and Dulwich Hamlet.

Speaking to the South London Press about Ward, and fellow trialist Simon Dawkins, Bowyer said: “Ward only came in and started on Monday, so he only had a couple of days training with us. We need to see him in games, not training.

“They are both on trial and we’ll make the right decision for the club.”
