ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman knows clubs will be casting further admiring glances at double hero Kayden Jackson after their 3-0 win over Premier League Huddersfield Town.

Striker Jackson, who scored 16 goals last season as Stanley won the League Two title, struck in the 18th and 41st minute, finishing superbly before being subbed at half-time in the Reds first pre-season outing before their League One opener against Gillingham.

Coleman says former Barnsley trainee Jackson has come back fitter and stronger than ever and he showed it by getting the better of the top flight defence, with David Wagner using all his multi-million pound squad in the game.

Stanley have rejected some advances for their forward already and may be braced for more if Jackson carries on in this rich vein of form.

Coleman started with a strong side, all of who were in the squad from last season, just using two triallists in the second half.

And the Reds began with purpose with winger Jordan Clark coming close while defender Ross Sykes, who came through the youth team with Stanley and played the full 90 minutes on Saturday, headed a Sean McConville free kick just wide.

Jackson put the Reds ahead on 18 minutes after a quick-fire move which saw Billy Kee thread through the hitman and he fired into the bottom corner of the net beyond keeper Ben Hamer.

Jackson doubled the score on 41 minutes when Florent Hadergjonaj’s back pass fell short and the striker nipped in, took the ball around Hamer and then had the luxury of an empty net to fire into.

Jackson came off at half-time as Coleman made changes while there were wholesale Huddersfield changes on the hour.

The Reds boss pushed tall defender Ben Richards-Everton up front as Stanley looked to cause more trouble for the Premier League defence. Chances were limited with Sam Finley, signed from Fylde in the summer and making his Reds debut, trying his luck from distance but it was comfortable for replacement keeper Joel Coleman.

Huddersfield pressed in the final 15 minutes and Jonny Maxted had to be alert to punch away a Hamid Sabiri free kick.

However, with seven minutes remaining, Sykes was fouled on the edge of the area and McConville curled in a beautiful free kick around the wall and into the bottom corner of the net.

There was still time for Maxted to pull off a superb save to deny Elias Kachunga as Stanley celebrated keeping a clean sheet against strong opposition.

This will give them a lot of confidence for the new season – but it may also have clubs taking more of a keen interest in their players ahead of the August transfer deadline.
