John Coleman is targeting four more players to complete his squad ahead of the League One season.

The Stanley chief is eyeing two new strikers, a central defender and a new goalkeeper to replace Aaron Chapman after he moved to Peterborough United.

That would complete Stanley’s summer business after the arrivals of Will Wood from Southampton, AFC Fylde midfielder Sam Finley and the returning Piero Mingoia.

Coleman is keen to add competition to his attacking ranks in particular, with just key striking duo Billy Kee and Kayden Jackson as senior options following the departure of Derby County loanee Offrande Zanzala.

“We’re still in talks with three or four players,” Coleman said.

“If we can get them over the line it would be great.

“I think we need one or two strikers, a centre half and a goalkeeper and then I think that will be us done.”

Stanley have only lost Chapman from last season’s squad, with Coleman happy with the numbers at his disposal should he get the targets he is pursuing over the line.

He added: “If I sign the players that I want then we will have a lot of the squad together.

“I have to be mindful that I don’t just keep adding to it and then you end up with too many players which can sometimes lead to an unhappy camp.”

Stanley are also taking a strong stance in terms of players attracting interest from other clubs.

Jackson, who netted 16 times last season, has reportedly attracted interested from Peterborough United, as have other members of Coleman’s squad.

But the boss admits the club won’t be bullied in to sales, with the senior stars all under contract at the Wham Stadium for at least another season.

Interest is no surprise given Stanley’s League Two title success in 2017/18, though Coleman wants to keep that squad intact ahead of the new campaign.

He added: “We have had a few enquiries but it’s not at the stage where they are knocking us over to make us think it’s life changing money for us.

“We’re now in a position where we can wait until an offer becomes what we would accept, rather than what we have to accept, which was always the case in the past.

“We’ve got players who are on longer contracts now which helps straight away.

“We’re in a position where we are developing those players and it would be folly of us to let them go somewhere else and them do a little bit more and then they get sold for millions, or several millions, when we should be getting those ourselves.”

Midfielder Scott Brown became the latest member of the Stanley squad to sign a new deal when extending his stay by 12 months.

The 33-year-old, who joined in 2016 from Grimsby Town, has committed his future to the club after 44 appearances last term.

Brown is now just nine matches short of a century for Stanley and will provide an experienced option for Coleman in the middle of the park next season.

The boss said: “He’s a great lad to have around the place is Scotty.

“His enthusiasm is infectious. You can see that when he goes out on to the pitch, he makes a difference. We’re pleased to tie him down. It didn’t take long, Scotty was keen to stay and I’m pleased that it’s another one from last year’s squad that we’re going to be working with.”
