Tyrone McKenna has warned Chorley’s Jack Catterall not to underestimate him when they face off in Belfast later this month.

The unbeaten Super-Lightweight duo are scheduled to meet on Saturday, June 30 in what is predicted to be an excellent match-up between two British fighters.

Irishman McKenna, who has six knockout wins in his 16 victories, believes Catterall may be looking beyond their meeting on the undercard of Michael Conlon’s homecoming at the SSE Arena.

The fight was announced last week to plenty of excitement, with Catterall, who has 21 wins to his name, stepping in to the breach after McKenna’s scheduled opponent, Phil Sutcliffe Jr, was forced to pull out through injury.

Former British Champion, Catterall, who recently re-captured the WBO Inter-Continental belt, is ranked number four with the governing body.

He has been linked with fights against Terry Flanagan, who will fight Maurice Hooker for the vacant World title this weekend, and fellow Englishman Ohara Davies, after coming earning a win on the Josh Warrington undercard in Leeds last month.

And while McKenna says he is an admirer of Catterall’s talents, he believes he possesses the skills to beat him.

“He’s a solid boxer. He’s slick,” McKenna told BoxNation of 24-year-old Catterall.

“No one gives him credit for how good his head movement is. He is very good, but I believe in myself and believe I have the attributes to beat him.

“I think he may be semi-overlooking me a bit. If he is, that might be his downfall.

“I don’t think I’m a fighter than should be overlooked - I’m a 6ft1 southpaw. I can box but I like to fight as well.”

McKenna faces Catterall, nicknamed ‘El Gato’, on the undercard of Conlon’s fight, something he believes adds great value to the show.

He added: “It makes his show even bigger.

“It excites the Belfast fans even more. Ireland people always love fighting English people don’t they?

“It’s in my home country, my home city, it’s on a massive show.”
