Rovers are looking to provide extra competition to number one David Raya during the summer transfer window.

And a player who has been linked with a move to Ewood is Park is former Academy graduate Frank Fielding, now with Bristol City.

Spaniard Raya started all but one league game for Rovers in 2017/18, missing just the penultimate game of the season at Charlton.

He kept 17 clean sheets in all and was named in the League One team of the season and the club’s young player of the year.

However, the 22-year-old, who signed a long-term deal with the club earlier this year, is relatively inexperienced at Championship level with just 12 starts to his name.

And with current number Jayson Leutwiler, a summer signing from Shrewsbury, yet to play above League One, a new goalkeeper is understood to challenger Raya is understood to be on Tony Mowbray’s wishlist.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph in April, Mowbray said: “What we need to do is create competition in all areas of the pitch and that’s what will probably happen.

“In the summer we need to create competition, but David has done extremely well for us and it’s not a position I’ve overly concerned myself over this season.”

Fielding, aged 30, is still under contract at Ashton Gate, but the Robins are thought to be looking to overhaul their goalkeeping department this summer.

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who has spent this season on loan at Shrewsbury Town, is reported to be a target for head coach Lee Johnson.  And that could see a return to East Lancashire for Blackburn-born Fielding who never made a first-team appearance.

He spent a season on loan at Wycombe Wanderers before other temporary spells at Northampton, Rochdale, Leeds and Derby before signing for the Rams on a permanent basis in 2011.

The former England youth international played 64 times for Derby before his move to Bristol City in 2013 and has passed 150 league appearances for the club.

A loan move for 20-year-old Academy graduate Andrew Fisher has also been discussed, and a new addition in the goalkeeping department could free him up to leave on a temporary basis.

He impressed in his three Checkatrade Trophy games and had a fine season for Rovers Under-23s but is still waiting to make his senior league debut.
