Four Rovers players will be hoping to feature for their countries during their upcoming friendlies.

Rovers won’t have any representatives in this summer’s World Cup in Russia, but there is plenty of international action coming up over the course of the next eight days.

First up, defenders Darragh Lenihan and Derrick Williams will aim to win their first caps for the Republic of Ireland as they travel to Paris to face France on Monday, May 28 (8pm).

The pair have been named in Martin O’Neill’s squad for the second time, and having pulled on the Irish jersey for Scott Brown’s testimonial at Celtic Park on May 20, will now be hoping for their first senior outing.

The Ireland squad has since been trimmed to 26, with both still included, increasing their chances of featuring in the two games.

Charlie Mulgrew has captained Scotland in their last two friendlies and will be aiming to wear the armband once again when they face Peru in Lima on Wednesday, May 30 (2am).

Whether or not he is handed the armband, Mulgrew has become a regular for his country and is a likely starter.

Also in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Rovers midfielder Corry Evans is expected to feature for Northern Ireland as they travel to Panama to face England’s World Cup opponents in a 3am kick-off.

A little closer to home, Republic of Ireland play their second friendly against USA in Dublin on Saturday, June 2 (8pm).

Should Lenihan and Williams not feature against the French then this will provide them with another chance to earn their first caps.

Scotland are on their travels once again, taking on Mexico at the Estadio Azteca on Sunday, June 3 (1am) to compete their two summer matches.

Northern Ireland, and Evans, will round-off the international fixtures involving Rovers players. Michael O’Neill’s side face Costa Rica on Sunday, June 3 (7pm).

Adam Armstrong, who finished the season on loan at Rovers, has received his first England Under-21s call-up ahead of the Toulon tournament.

The Under-21s face China today (2pm), Mexico on Tuesday, May 29 (6.30pm) and then Qatar on Friday, June 1 (6.30pm) as they look to make it out of the group stages.

Aidy Boothroyd’s side have won the tournament in each of the last two years and are aiming for a hat-trick this time around.
