Tony Mowbray believes Rovers have a base from which to build and admits he will do all he can to bring back the good times to Ewood Park.

The Rovers boss returned from India following positive talks with owners Venky’s with renewed enthusiasm for the task ahead.

Mowbray masterminded promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt this season and will now look to restore Rovers as a force in the second tier following two seasons of struggle which culminated in relegation in 2016/17.

A feel-good factor returned to Ewood Park following a successful season, with 27,600 fans watching the final day win over Oxford, while they averaged almost 2,000 fans for each of their 23 away league games.

And keen to maintain the momentum, Mowbray said: “We have a base to build from and a respect for each other.

“I just wanted to get across the point that as a manager I’ll work every hour that God sends and give everything I’ve got; there will be times when we win three or four on the bounce and times when we lose games, so we need that support and I felt that pretty strongly.

“We understand that we’re in a competitive industry and sometimes there are ups and downs but you have to ride those waves.”

Mowbray travelled to India for the second time since taking the helm at Ewood Park.

In doing so, he became the first manager since Gary Bowyer to make the trip to India.

Rovers Chief Executive Steve Waggott also travelled with Mowbray, the second time he has met the owners face to face since being appointed in December. Waggott is keen to improve communication lines between India and East Lancashire.

Finance director Mike Cheston and club secretary Ian Silvester were also part of the travelling Rovers party and Mowbray admits the face-to-face contact with members of the Rao family was essential.

He added: “It was very important.

“I think that as an individual and as a human, it’s important that they feel my personality and the qualities that I try to bring to this job.

“I’d have to say that I feel they have similar human qualities, I find them very humble, considerate and family-orientated people.

“They see this football club as being like a family.

“It was important to see them face-to-face and let them feel my personality.”
