SAM Murray heads to Bulgaria this week for the latest Modern Pentathlon World Cup fixture.

The East Lancashire ace, a silver medalist at the London 2012 Olympic Games, is part of a strong Great Britain squad heading to Sofia for the fourth round of the series.

Murray, from Clitheroe, will be hoping to recapture the form that carried her to fifth in Los Angeles earlier in the season.

She failed to reach the final last time out in Hungary but the 28-year-old will be hopeful of a strong performance this time around.

She is joined in the women's squad by Kate French, Francesca Summers and Jess Varley.

Jo Muir, who was originally selected, has unfortunately been ruled out due to injury following a fall in training last week.

A strong men’s team will also be heading to the Bulgarian capital, led by Jamie Cooke, Tom Toolis and Sam Curry.

It is the first time that a World Cup has ever been held in Bulgaria but the country has hosted many major events since the turn of the century, most recently the 2017 Under 17 European Championships. Sofia played host to the 2016 European Championships which saw Kate French, Sam Murray and Jo Muir claim team silver.

Murray will get her qualifying campaign underway today with the final on Friday. Men's qualifying takes place tomorrow with the final on Saturday.
