Rovers striker Joe Nuttall has missed on being named the Premier League 2 player of the season.

The prize was won by 18-year-old Arsenal rising star Reiss Nelson after helping them to the PL2 Division One title.

Nelson scored 10 goals along the way, as Arsenal also reached the final of the Premier League International Cup.

That form saw him break in to the senior team where he made 16 appearances, many of those in the Europa League.

No player in Premier League 2 football had scored more goals than the 14 managed by Nuttall as his goals helped Rovers to the Premier League 2 Division Two title, and promotion.

He netted a further three times in the cup competitions, as well as five times for the senior team, which saw him end his debut season at Ewood Park with 22 goals and be fully deserving of his nomination.

The 21-year-old, who signed a new long-term deal with Rovers in January, was shortlisted alongside Nelson as well as Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal), Tyrese Campbell (Stoke City), Rushian Hepburn-Murphy (Aston Villa), Lukas Nmecha (Manchester City), and Harry Wilson (Liverpool).

The winner was selected by a panel of the Premier League Football Development Department
