OUR Clarets jury discuss the big issues at Turf Moor. This week we were asking for player of the season nominations and there were plenty of names put forward.

MATT RIGGS

It shows what a good season we've had that again I'm struggling to pick one player.

Jack Cork has been fantastic and Ashley Barnes has had probably his best season for us. However, it has to be Nick Pope. To come in like he has done, having never played a game in the Premier League and perform like he has done is nothing short of incredible.

I think it's fair to say when Tom Heaton went off injured, we feared the worst for what it meant for our season but Pope has been amazing which will hopefully be capped off by a place in the World Cup squad.

AMER STANSFIELD-MUSHTAQ

For me the player of the season this year is tougher than it has been in a generation. We have no prima donnas or stand out stars and this group of footballers have finished one place below the 'big six'.

When I was growing up under the shadows of Turf Moor, it was always said to me that Burnley FC is a sleeping giant and qualifying for the Europa League competition has brought that closer than ever for me and in no small part thanks to my player of the season Nick Pope, without whom we would have lost many points this season.

MIKEY WATSON

Player of the season, for me, is Tarkowski. He came in, having started four Premier League games in his career, and more than stepped in for Michael Keane.

An excellent distributor, amazingly calm under pressure, he’s been part of a fantastic defence that have protected the goalkeeper beyond belief. Pope has been super, also beyond expectations, but centre half is a different world.

The list of strikers he’s kept quiet is lengthy. A totally deserved England cap and hopefully a World Cup place to come.

MARTYN HESKETH

A small mention to Stephen Ward, think he's massively underrated and it's no co-incidence we didn't win in 12 games without him, he's consistently a seven out of 10 every game, defensively sound, very rarely caught out and very rare attackers get round the back of him.

He comes in and helps the centre backs out when the ball is played in from Matt Lowton's side and he's always available as an out ball as well as helping out down the flank - just think he deserves a bit more recognition. He's a big part of what we achieve.

JOHN GIBAUT

From afar (I live in Seattle and only saw three games back in Blighty this year) it is difficult to make a call.

Saying that, the obvious choice is Nick Pope, for the simple reason he is the one who has developed the most over the season - no Premier League experience to England call up.

Listening to commentary, on several occasions he has kept us in a game. There have been several players that have shown great improvement, (in order) James Tarkowski, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Ashley Westwood, Kevin Long. And, of course, there are the players that are the foundations to our success, Ben Mee, Jack Cork, Ashley Barnes. Is there anyone I haven’t mentioned yet?

PHILIP LEE

Ashley Barnes for me. Sets the tone for the whole team, never gives up, works defenders to the brink, and this season has added real quality. Some of his goals have been Ronaldo like.

LUKE LAMBERT

The reality is, so many players have had fantastic seasons. Pope- a revelation, Lowton and Ward - rarely been stuffed by their opponent, Mee - a man mountain as ever, TarkowskI - class. JBG - a real threat and a number of assists, Cork - so reliable, Defour and Brady - brilliant until injuries, Barnes - a nuisance all season, Wood - a real goal threat and very good goals per minute ratio.

I genuinely can’t pick one of the above. A real team effort, masterminded by Sean Dyche and his backroom staff. A brilliant, brilliant season with the fantastic, unexpected reward of Europe.

JAMES PEET

Between Tarkowski and Pope. I’d have to give it to Pope as he’s come from nowhere to be amongst the best in the country and every stat backs that up

RICK FORD

A few contenders but for the progress he has made it’s Nick Pope for me. And he continues to keep his place with one of the best keepers in the country breathing down his neck.

DAZ MCKAVETT

Tarky was doubted by a section of our support as to whether he could step into Keane's boots and he's proved to be more than an adequate replacement, always looks assured on the ball and along with Mee and more recently Long he's played a massive part in our success this season.

So for me its a flip of a coin between Tarky and Pope but if pressed i'd give it to Tarky.

CHRIS WILSON

James Tarkowski - Had big shoes to fill after Keane left and he's stepped up the the plate. So competent on the ball and has so often been the calming influence we needed and his defending has been incredible too.

DAN BARNES

Johann Berg Gudmundsson has been perhaps our most consistent performer throughout the season. He doesn’t get as much praise as his form often deserves.
