WELL Sunday didn’t quite go the way I expected.

I had a feeling that the Gunners would turn it on for Arsene Wenger’s last match in charge but I didn’t expect us to wave them through without much of a fight.

That said, I think the lads can be forgiven an off day after the season they’ve had.

With seventh place – and that European tour we’ve been banging on about for weeks finally secured – minds had somewhat predictably wandered.

The end of season when there is little to play for is always a bit of a silly season, although I don’t want to take anything away from the fans who shelled out their hard-earned cash to travel to the Emirates on Sunday.

They’re understandably disappointed and they have every right to be.

I’m sure most of them will look back on the season as a whole and see it as a minor blip on an otherwise outstanding campaign.

I’ve said this a few times but you do have to wonder what might have been had we not lost the likes of Tom Heaton, Robbie Brady, Chris Wood, Steven Defour and others either for long periods or at key times of the season.

We’ve been sitting pretty comfortably in seventh since coming out of that ridiculous three-month period without a win and it’s hard not to think back to a few of the matches on that run and think about the impact those injuries played.

But, in typical Burnley style, we didn’t whinge we just got on with things and I think it’s that honesty, something Sean Dyche has talked a lot about, which will stand us in good stead going into the next campaign.

Things will be a whole lot tougher with the Europa League qualifying to contend with but I am sure Dyche and his team are already planning their summer spending spree.

We’ve been linked with a few names already but until I see them stood leant against a goal post or crouched down on next to the dugout, I’m not interested!

I think we all have an idea of the type of player we want and I have full faith in Dyche and the board to deliver.

Our last game against Bournemouth on Sunday is a chance to celebrate the achievements of this year and I’d love to go out with a resounding win, especially now the visitors – managed by former boss Eddie Howe – are safe.
