STEVEN Defour is confident of being fit for Burnley's return to pre-season in early July.

And having seen the Clarets qualify for Europe the Belgian midfielder is eager to show the continent 'what Burnley is all about'.

Defour won the club's goal of the season award at the Player of the Year night at Turf Moor on Monday for his stunning free-kick past David De Gea at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.

But the 30-year-old's season was ended by a knee injury in January and he has had to watch from the sidelines as the Clarets have secured a top seven finish.

“It’s difficult to see the team play because you want to be on the pitch,” said Defour, who has split his rehabilitation between Burnley and Belgium.

“But I’m doing very well. I’m ahead of schedule and I hope to be fit for pre-season."

Defour has graced the Champions League, Europa League and Uefa Cup during his time with Standard Liege, Porto and Anderlecht, but probably didn't expect to be back playing European football with Burnley.

But now the Clarets have booked their place in the Europa League Defour is determined to see Burnley put on a show.

“I think it’s an amazing achievement for the whole club. I think we have to continue like we have done. We have always improved and I hope we can improve next year," he said.

"It will be nice to show Europe what Burnley is all about and I hope we can get into the group stage."
