ADAM Armstrong admitted securing promotion with Rovers was ‘brilliant’ and he wants to cap the season with three points in front of a packed Ewood Park tomorrow.

Armstrong has scored nine goals in 16 starts since joining Rovers on loan from Newcastle United in January to help secure a place in the Championship next season.

The loanee began the season in the second tier with Bolton Wanderers but switched to Rovers earlier this year and has played a key part in a superb second half of the season which culminated in promotion.

The League One title remains up for grabs and although Rovers are outsiders to prise the prize away from leaders Wigan Athletic, needing to bridge a two-point gap on the final day, Armstrong hopes a full house at Ewood Park can help inspire the players to victory and at least ensure Rovers do their bit in the bid for silverware.

More than 25,000 supporters are expected for the season finale and Armstrong is relishing playing in front of a bumper crowd.

The 21-year-old said: “We’ll have a good day, hopefully the sun will be out but we have to do our job and hope things go our way over in Doncaster.

“With over 25,000 packed into Ewood it’ll only give all the lads a lift. There will be a real buzz around the place but it’ll be a tough game.”

Armstrong has a contract until 2020 at Newcastle and revealed he had achieved his promotion aim on joining Rovers, even if he did miss the final whistle at Doncaster when Mowbray’s men sealed a top two finish.

“I said when I came here that I wanted to get promoted and it’s been a nice relief to get there in the end,” the frontman told Rovers’ official website.

“It was nervous at Doncaster after going off, but fortunately Charlie (Mulgrew) came up with the goods and we won the game,” Adam added.

“I actually missed the final whistle as just before I left the dugout to go to the toilet. When I came back, the final whistle had already blown!”

He added: “I’ve won tournaments with England but have never achieved anything at club level. Every player wants to win promotions and to get one already at my age is brilliant.”
