Rovers chief executive Steve Waggott praised the unity of the club after promotion back to the Championship was secured.

Waggott recognised the efforts of the staff, both on and off the pitch, as well as the supporters after Rovers reclaimed a place in the second tier.

Tony Mowbray has masterminded a run of just one defeat in 33 matches to see off the challenge of third-placed Shrewsbury and Waggott said that form has brought a feel-good factor to the whole club.

“The supporters have had a rough time of late and we saw that with the eruption of emotion at the end when we clinched it,” said Waggott.

“It was an unbelievable effort by Tony and all the backroom staff and all the administrative staff.

“There is a real unity between on the field and off the field in the business but also the link between the playing staff, the football management, and supporters has been fantastic.

“The results of the first team, they are the first class carriage and the engine room of the business. If they win then it picks up the staff on a Monday morning, the feeling of the supporters and the vibe of the town.

“It’s great for the town of Blackburn to be on the map, albeit in a very competitive Championship.

“It’s been a terrific success, we have to embrace it but focus for the next two games because there’s a chance we could still lift the title which would be fantastic.

“When the players are getting close to the potential of winning silverware then they have to make the most of it because it doesn’t come around all that often.

“We focus on the next two games and then hopefully a celebration in front of a full-ish stadium.”

Rovers ensured it will be a short stay in League One after a 27th win of the season at the Keepmoat.

On what promotion means to the club, Waggott added: “It was vitally important to get out of League One where we know that budgets are tight.

“You have to hand it to the owners for the way that they have backed the club, the infrastructure of the club has stayed strong, there is a competitive squad, and since the introduction of Tony to the club he’s brought stability on the pitch.

“I was brought in to add some stability and leadership off it but how Tony has managed this squad to get back at the first time... It’s an unbelievable effort because we all know how hard it is in football, after the trauma of relegation to not only put the brakes on but to turn it around and come back at the first attempt.

“I’m delighted for everyone connected with the club.”
