Derrick Williams wants Rovers to keep setting records after winning promotion back to the Championship.

Rovers' win at Doncaster on Tuesday sealed promotion from League One and broke a club record for the number of away wins.

They amassed a club record points tally when moving to 93 after their latest win while they also matched the 27 victories they managed in the 1994/095 Premier League title season.

The League One title remains within reach, and Williams insists there will be no let-up despite promotion being secured.

He said: “There has been a lot of pressure all year.

“We had a bad first month or so, but the record afterwards is unbelievable.

“One loss in 33 is special.

“We want to keep that going, we want to set records and we’re aiming for top spot.

“We want the title. Wigan drew so we’ll keep being professional and try and take it to the last day, win both games and see where we end up.”

Williams was one of six players in the starting line-up at Doncaster who started the win at Brentford on the final day of last season when Rovers were relegated.

The club's player of the year for 2016/17 has been an ever-present in this campaign.

On the differing emotions this time around, he said: “It’s the complete opposite. A great day and a great occasion for the fans.

“We’re just happy that we’re back in the Championship now and have a good go at it next year.

“You play football to enjoy these moments.

“It’s been a long season. We were 14 or 15 points behind at one stage, but we’re buzzing.”

As they have been all season, Rovers were backed by an incredible 3,860 travelling fans.

Williams praised the efforts of those making the trip from East Lancashire and explained the difference that it makes.

He added: “The support is unbelievable.

“Our attendances away from home are the best in the league and as a player it means a lot.

“The last five minutes you could hear how much it means to the fans and that last five minutes it makes you dig in even more.

“Massive credit to them.”
