FOR most of Accrington it was all about living in the moment on Tuesday night, but owner Andy Holt couldn’t help but look at a target half a century away.

Since his investment in Stanley Holt has built what he describes as a ‘floor’ for the club, a sound base to work from him.

But while he was proud to drink in the moment - joining fans, players and staff for the liveliest of post-match parties that ended with Scott Brown waking up the following morning still in his kit - Holt knows the true test of his time at the club lies ahead.

He believes the Reds are equipped to compete in League One next season, but wants this legacy to last well into the future.

“That’s the beauty of it, we’re two years from oblivion (in League Two),” Holt said while the celebrations went on around him.

“When you’re in League Two you only need a bad run and you can disappear.

“Now we can plan a bit better. We’ve a real chance of making this a really good little club.

“My remit is that in 50 years this club is still here. That’s the plan and that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to get the fabric of the club and embed it to the community.

“That’s all that matters.”

Holt added: “For Accrington to get to League One is immense, it’s a magic performance by the lads, by Coley and all the staff, your Mark Turner’s, David Burgess’s, all the girls in the office.

"They’ve been working for years for nothing. They weren’t on a minimum wage when I started, they weren’t on a wage, a lot of people were working for free just to get it going.

"A lot of people have put to so much into it that they deserve their day in the sun.

"I’m so proud of what they’ve done. It’s their moment. I’m looking at it from afar doing a job.

"I love the lads. On the bus I play cards with Coley, I talk to all the lads, when we win we’ve got the music on. It’s a special group."
