Jack Payne insists Rovers’ mindset won’t change no matter where they find themselves in the League One table come Saturday night.

Tony Mowbray’s side are without a game tomorrow due to international call-ups meaning Shrewsbury and Wigan could both overtake them in the table.

The three promotion rivals are separated by just two points, meaning Rovers could end the weekend in any of the top three positions.

But whether they remain at the summit, or drop out of the top two, Payne says Rovers will remain focussed on their final nine games in the race for promotion.

The 23-year-old said: “No matter what position we’re in we need to win as many games as possible.

“So we’ll go in to every game trying our best to win, no matter how the other teams do.

“We’re going to aim to win as many games as we can.

“You can’t look too far ahead, I’m sure that teams will drop points between now and the end of the season and we have to make sure we drop the least.”

Wigan won at Walsall on Wednesday to move two points behind Rovers with two games in hand.

A win for the Latics at Bury would see them leapfrog Mowbray’s men, while three points for Shrewsbury in their home game with AFC Wimbledon would send them top.

Rovers are in the middle of an enforced 19 day break from action after seeing last weekend’s trip to Gillingham postponed.

The game was called off just under three hours before kick-off, and has been re-arranged for April 10, meaning Rovers will play seven times next month, including five away fixtures.

Of the postponement, Payne added: “It was frustrating for the game to be off.

“We worked hard during the week to prepare for it and we knew we had a break afterwards so we really wanted to get the game played. But it is what it is, we have to deal with it.

“It’s another game in April so we need to make the most of our little break now.”
