BURNLEY Bobcats Swimming Club took a small but strong squad of swimmers to the Lancashire County Championships.

The club is still growing in size, but managed to punch well above its weight in the extremely competitive county event. The more experienced squad members featured heavily in the finals and the mix for medals - taking a number of championship titles in the various age group events, as well as overall junior titles.

These swimmers were ably backed up by the newer competitors, some racing in the championships for the first time.

The club finished eighth in the age group standings and sixth in the championships points table which represented a strong progression from last year.

Head coach Neil Horton said that was down to hard work.

He said: “The swimmers put in an exceptional job. They’ve worked incredibly hard throughout the championships, while still maintaining a very tough training cycle.”

Burnley Bobcats are always on the lookout for new swimmers. In particular children who are at the very start of their swimming journey.

The club is also always happy to hear from any businesses and organisations in the area who would like to sponsor the club to help them to continually develop swimmers for the future.
