YOU won't find boss Tony Mowbray moaning about having to disappoint Rovers players who won't make his matchday 18.

Rovers have been hit by a string of injuries throughout the course of the campaign, with only now numbers starting to come back in to the fold.

Having previously been short of options at times, Mowbray now finds himself with a wealth of options at his disposal.

Darragh Lenihan made his long awaited comeback last month, while on-loan Middlesbrough winger Harry Chapman could be back at Brockhall next week.

Peter Whittingham and Ben Gladwin are winning their fitness battles, having not played since the back end of 2017 with calf and knee problems respectively.

Dominic Samuel (ankle) missed the midweek win at AFC Wimbledon but is in contention for Sunday's game with Wigan, as is Craig Conway, with Lewis Travis returning from suspension following his three match ban.

And Mowbray said: “Samuel did a little bit on his own and the expectation is that he will train (on Saturday).

“Travis is free from suspension and has been playing Under-23s football and will join in with the group again.

“Another day with Whittingham and Gladwin training, so as we’ve said the treatment room is emptying and that’s only a positive for us. Conway is in contention as well.

“We’ve got to the point now where we might have to disappoint a few.

“That’s part of the job, part and parcel of the job. You can’t moan on the one hand that you haven’t got enough players and then about having the difficulty of leaving some out, that’s what the job is.

“We’ll try and pick the team that we feel can give Wigan enough problems that will allow is to win the game.”

Gladwin has been restricted mainly to cup appearances for Rovers since his summer move from QPR.

The 25-year-old is yet to start a league match this term, while Whittingham has been out since December with a calf problem sustained in the win at Peterborough.

The pair are likely to play for the Under-23s before a return to the first-team squad is considered.

Mowbray added: “They fall in to that category.

“In an ideal world they will play some football.

“The Under-23s have two or three games coming up in the next couple of weeks so ideally they will get a run-out on top of their daily training programme so that they feel the confidence of playing a match with a competitive edge.

“They will then be eligible and back in the matchday squad whereas at the moment they will keep training and try and get an Under-23s game in the next couple of weeks.”
