ELLIOTT Bennett insists he is happy to be Tony Mowbray’s ‘flexible friend’ if it leads to a Rovers promotion come May.

The 29-year-old operated as a right wing back in the second half against Portsmouth and Oldham when Rovers switched to three at the back.

Bennett has primarily been a winger but has also operated in the number 10 role for Rovers and has started the last seven matches in centre midfield alongside Richie Smallwood.

And the former Wolves man is happy to play anywhere for the greater good, a view he believes is shared by the rest of a Rovers squad.

“I don’t mind where I play,” he said ahead of tonight’s League One clash with Bury at Ewood Park. “I love playing football and the manager asks me to do a job wherever it is then I am more than happy to do it.

“The gaffer sometimes likes to do that (change the system). If he thinks that another team has a weakness somewhere or if he thinks changing the formation can help win the game then he will do it.

“I will always give 100 per cent and try and be the best player I can.

“I watch football, I watch other people’s positions and see what they do and if I am not in the team I am looking at other positions and trying to take bits from other players that I can apply to that position if he needs to.

“It is important that you can adapt to situations. I think with this group of players everyone wants to win everyone wants to do their bit so if the gaffer asks Danny Graham to play right sided centre back for five minutes then he would do it because he wants the team to do well.”

And Bennett, who has made 34 appearances for Rovers this season, believes the squad’s camaraderie can be crucial as Mowbray’s men bid for an immediate return to the Championship.

“We have a togetherness have in this group. When things are not going well we all stick together and when an individual is having a bad time the lads all pull him through and that is what it is about.

“It is not just about the XI that you see on a Saturday. We have 12 or 13 other players who are not playing on a Saturday that are massively important to the group and vital to what we are trying to achieve.”
