CHARLIE Mulgrew says Rovers will take confidence from last weekend’s win over Shrewsbury Town but must maintain their focus, insisting: “we haven’t won anything yet”.

Rovers boosted their promotion hopes with a crucial win over their promotion rivals at Ewood Park but are still two points outside of the automatic promotion spots heading in to the home stretch.

They are back within striking distance of the Shrews though, and are back to being five behind leaders Wigan with 20 games to play and Mulgrew insists plenty of tough tests lie in wait.

Rovers head to Highbury to face 12th placed Fleetwood this afternoon looking to make it 16 matches without defeat as they aim to climb in to the automatic promotion spots for the first time this season.

But Mulgrew knows Rovers must remain focussed in the remaining games.

The captain said: “We take confidence from it but we have to look to the next match.

“What’s done is done, we enjoyed it (the win) but from Monday we looked forward and prepared for the next match.

“That’s the way it has to be for the next 20 games.”

Rovers have been without a number of key players of late, with six senior figures absent for the Shrewsbury match and a similar number expecting to miss today’s game.

Tony Mowbray has made moves in the January transfer window to try and address that, with Jack Payne becoming the second new arrival at the club when he joined on loan from Huddersfield on Tuesday, following Adam Armstrong through the Ewood Park arrivals door.

Rovers are well placed with 20 fixtures to play, but the 31-year-old knows they need to keep rolling with the momentum.

And he says everyone within the club is pulling in the same direction looking to make their promotion aim a reality.

He added: “This is a good group, everyone is working hard and is on the same wavelength in terms of working hard and working for the team and being team players.

“It’s a really good changing room and we all know that we’ve done nothing yet.

“There’s a real determination in the dressing room but it’s all right talking about it, we won a game and got the three points but we quickly look to the next one and trying to keep going.”

With Scunthorpe United also well in the promotion mix, there are likely to be plenty more twists and turns before the top two, and play-off spots, are confirmed.  And while Shrewsbury was a huge game for Rovers, Mulgrew insists every fixtures throws up a different challenge.

That will be no different this afternoon as they face a Fleetwood side who have won three of their last four league matches to climb in to the top half.

“There are tough games to come, big moments in the season and we have to keep out attitude the same throughout the season and if we do then we won’t be far away,” he said.

“We know the next game is the biggest game and we’ll go there looking to win that.”
