BILLY Barr says Rovers want to continue their FA Youth Cup adventure ahead of tonight’s fourth round clash at home to Watford (7pm) at Ewood Park.

Rovers have saved their best performances this season for the competition and face a Premier League side for the second round running after a Jack Evans brace saw off Stoke City in round three in December.

Rovers overcame non-league pair Tranmere Rovers and Wrexham in the opening two rounds and will be looking for another safe passage this time around against a Watford side who knocked out Sunderland last week.

Barr is set to welcome the likes of Dan Butterworth and Callum Wright back into the fold, with the pair now regulars for the Under-23s.

John Buckley and Ben Paton have also had a taste of life in Damien Johnson’s squad and they are likely to provide the experience in Barr’s side this evening.

And despite their struggles in the league this season, Barr said: “It’s been a different adventure, obviously starting in round one this time, but I think the lads have been really good.

“It’s probably been our better games of the season so far. We had the perceived ‘stronger group’ back for each game and I think they’ve gone about their business really well in each one and they’re looking forward to the Watford game.

“We’ve prepared for it as we did the last three and hopefully we can have a repeat performance.”

Watford, a Category Two side, made it past Category One outfit Sunderland in the last round. And Barr said of the Hornets: “We watched them in the last round against Sunderland. They play differently to the teams that we play against in Category One.

“They work really hard for each other and the system they play suits them.

“They don’t lose many games, so we’ve tried to stress the importance of patience and making sure we don’t just go down blind alleys into Watford numbers.”

Rovers are back at Ewood for the third tie running and Barr admits his players are becoming used to playing on the first-team pitch.

He said: “It’s starting to become home. It’s been great for them.

“Obviously that’s three games now in this run and some of them had never been near Ewood in the past.

“Now they’ve been on it, some of the lads have scored on it, the feel-good factor is there and they’re looking forward to it.

“So if they can get to grips with the arena and the emotion that goes with playing in the arena, earlier in their careers, it should stand them in good stead for Under-23s football and, hopefully, first team football.”

Meanwhile, the Rovers 100 Club have strengthened their links with the Academy by becoming shirt sponsors of the youth teams.

The 100 Club has developed a close relationship with the Academy with their donations totalling more than £250,000.
