ROVERS’ win at Oxford in November made a lasting impression on new loan signing Jack Payne who said he was delighted to secure an Ewood loan switch.

Tony Mowbray’s side ran out 4-2 winners at the Kassam Stadium, where Huddersfield playmaker Payne spent the first half of the season.

Payne was recalled by his parent club on Monday with Rovers quickly making a move for the talented 23-year-old who will remain in East Lancashire for the remainder of the campaign.

He netted three times, including once in the defeat to Rovers, and laid on nine assists during his time with Pep Clotet’s men.

And the new boy said: “Rovers were one of the best teams we played at Oxford - if not the best. I’d have been silly to have turned down an opportunity like this.

“I’m really pleased to get this opportunity to move to a really great club and I can’t wait to get going here.

“The last few days have been hectic to be honest.

“I heard about the move and it’s been done really quickly, which is all good from my side of things.

“I heard Rovers were interested, Huddersfield were proactive about it and I’m really excited to join a club doing well in the league and playing some good football.”

Payne, who has been handed the number 19 shirt, trained with his team-mates yesterday and is expected to be in the squad for this weekend’s League One trip to Fleetwood Town.

The diminutive playmaker joined Huddersfield in 2016 after coming through the ranks at Southend United, who he helped to promotion from the fourth tier.

Payne made 28 appearances for David Wagner’s side last season as the Terriers claimed promotion to the Premier League.

And the attacker now has the chance to complete hat-trick of promotions adding: “I’ve had two promotions so far in my career; at Southend in League Two and last season from the Championship with Huddersfield.

“They were fantastic experiences and I hope to get more of them here.

“It is the best feeling ever and you want to replicate that.

“It’d be lovely to get a third promotion here. To play a part in it and influence it would be great.

“There’s no reason why we can’t do it. Everything is in place here from the players, staff and facilities.

“To get promoted you need to have a good team that’s tight knit and works together.

“You need to get yourself in the right positions, which Blackburn have done and then once it gets to the business end of the season you have to be consistent, winning matches whether you are playing well or not and continuing to get points on the board.”

Payne became Rovers’ second arrival of the January transfer window following Adam Armstrong’s arrival on loan from Newcastle United last week.

Paul Downing also made his loan switch permanent and Rovers remain keen to strike a £300,000 deal with Saturday’s opponents Fleetwood for left-back Amari’i Bell.

Meanwhile, Rovers have been given an allocation of 980 tickets for the trip to Portsmouth on Tuesday, February 13.

Tickets, priced at £23 for adults with concessions available, will go on sale to season ticket holders with 1875 Club membership from today. Any remaining tickets will go on sale on January 29.
