KARL Robinson said he was proud of his Charlton players and felt they deserved more from the game despite slipping to a third defeat in four league matches.

A Leon Best own goal and late Danny Graham header made it six wins on the bounce for Rovers but leaves Charlton hanging on to their play-off spot only on goals scored.

But Robinson said his players should be proud of their efforts and believes more performances such as the one they gave at Ewood will help turn their dip in form around.

He said: “I thought we were the better team.

“Tony (Mowbray) has just said. They felt that we deserved more than we got out of the game. These have been scoring at will.

“We looked good. I need people to help my players. We’re going through a little dip that everybody goes through.

“We know that results haven’t been as they should be but we feel that we deserve more than what we’re getting. We’re going to need the support and ourselves to work hard.”

Leon Best was sent on in place of Billy Clarke and within four minutes headed a Charlie Mulgrew free-kick in to his own net.

But far from criticising the former Ewood frontman, Robinson said: “I thought Besty was excellent when he came on but he’ll feel a bit disappointed with the own-goal. We missed one or two chances in the first half and two or three in the second. We looked the better team here. I’m proud of my players but fundamentally it’s about scoring goals.”

Charlton had more of the ball in the second half but when they did break through the Rovers rearguard they found David Raya in excellent form.

And the Addicks boss added: “It wasn’t a bad performance. The first goal is an own goal and I don’t think they had another shot on target other than that until the second goal, which came when we were pushing to get an equaliser.

“We missed one or two chances and I think the man of the match was their goalkeeper.

“The keeper guessed which way he (Ben Reeves) was going to shoot and he almost dived past it. Reevesy’s shot in the second half, we were right behind that and he cuts inside and it looks like it’s going in the bottom corner.

“The goalkeeper makes a wonderful save to stop it going in.

“We had one or two other opportunities that we didn’t take but that is the way it has been of late.

“We don’t think we got what we deserved but we’re going through that kind of period.”
