FEW teams can claim to have had two tougher draws then Crewe Alexandra in the FA Cup – but it’s a challenge that boss David Artell is relishing.

Crewe arrive at Ewood Park on Sunday bidding to knock out a League One side for the second round running, having beaten Rotherham United 2-1 earlier this month.

They face a Rovers side full of confidence following a fourth consecutive league win against Blackpool on Tuesday, a game that Artell travelled to see.

And despite Crewe having lost 13 of their last 19 matches, the Alex boss believes they have the quality to cause an upset.

He said: “I don’t think we could have had two tougher draws.

“It’s a challenge for us, but we can go there with no fear. We’ve beaten a League One side already, ran Oldham close (in the Checkatrade Trophy), so we know we have the ammunition and players to cause an upset.

“They played Barnet in the last round and were 1-0 down at half-time.

“If you get through you could get the luck of the draw and potentially have a big money spinner on your hands.”

Despite going in to the game as underdogs, with Rovers fourth in League One and Crewe 20th in the fourth tier, Artell says his side cannot be too relaxed heading into the fixture.

He added: “It’s probably the opposite. You can’t be relaxed, you’re playing higher league opposition.

“You have to go into each game with the right frame of mind.”
