TONY Mowbray praised his side’s moments of quality as they got back to winning ways at Bury.

A brace from Marcus Antonsson and Bradley Dack strike saw Rovers to a comfortable win as they moved back in to the top six of League One.

They had to weather an early spell of Bury pressure, but from the moment that Marcus Antonsson had them ahead in the 12th minute, they eased to victory.

Dack had a hand in the first two goals and scored the third while Rovers also secured a fifth clean sheet in eight away games.

“It’s never comfortable, we have a lot of respect for Bury,” Mowbray said.

“It was a game for us to come here and win, that was our only option.

“We knew that there would be an intensity reaction from them and try and make it a battle if they could.

“A couple of bits of quality knocked the stuffing out of them a little bit and we finished the game pretty comfortably, but for spells it was a dangerous game for us.

“But it’s one that we’ve got over and we move on to the next one.”

Dack was one of the main differences in the game, but with Harry Chapman out injured until after the New Year, Mowbray admits they won’t want to become reliant upon the 23-year-old.

He added: “That’s why Bradley is here.

“In January, particularly with Chapman’s loss, he could have done some damage on that big pitch, we need to add individual quality, every team is organised, works hard and is physical and sometimes you need that extra ingredient, that quality, that class to make the right pass and that right decision, but you need more than one.

“Teams could focus on Bradley, go man for man on him with an athletic player and it could become more difficult for him, but if you have two or three players with that quality you have a better chance of winning games.”

Rovers eased to a fifth clean sheet as Bury rarely threatened a fightback in the second half. Mowbray's side have conceded just four goals all season, the best defensive record of any sides in the EFL,.

Mowbray added: “The defensive unit we have got, they are confident as individuals that bar, as it was early on with a few slipping on their backsides, it wasn’t an error that we couldn’t foresee that it would be okay for them (Bury) to have the ball at times and we would be a threat on the break and could have had more goals.

“I’m happy with the points, there was a nervous energy coming in the game that we had to get the job done.

“I’m hoping as the season goes on that the nervous tension going in to games and a tight game turns in to a belief that we can’t see anything but a win and the opposition set up defensively.

“I’m pleased, I talked to them afterwards about Tuesday, let’s rest up, we’re in training tomorrow, Oxford have won 4-0 at Plymouth so will be confident but that’s the next challenge for us.”
