PORTSMOUTH boss Kenny Jackett said making fewer mistakes was the key to Rovers chalking up what he called a deserved victory at Ewood Park.

The two sides came in to the game locked on 20 points, but it was Rovers who were to move in to the top six courtesy of a 3-0 win.

In difficult conditions, Rovers scored seven minutes before the break through Bradley Dack and added to that after the break with goals from Danny Graham and Craig Conway.

Pompey full-back Dion Donohue was caught in possession in the lead up to the first goal, and Jackett said: “Blackburn made less mistakes than us.

“I felt they looked more solid - and more solid at the back.

“Up to the first goal there was one clearcut chance at either end.

“Then we’ve made a real poor mistake to give them the goal.

“Blackburn never made those kind of mistakes.

“We had to work hard to earn our chances - and for us there was too many times we gifted them chances.”

It was a second defeat in the week for Pompey on the road after a 2-1 loss at Doncaster Rovers.  Only four sides have now conceded more than their 14 goals on the road so far this season and Jackett was disappointed with his side’s defending.

He added: “We had battled well and reduced them to not many chances and looked a threat on the break, particularly down the right, which is exactly what you need to do.

“That's five goals in two away games which has cost us.  We haven't valued a clean sheet enough, it's given us too much to do going forward.

“It's about making less mistakes, seeing what Blackburn do which is a very solid performance which gave them a deserved victory.”

And on how he rectifies that, Jackett said: “Hard work on the training ground and letting the players know what they need to do to come to players like here and know what to do.”

The win allowed Rovers to move back in to the top six and despite reserving praise for Tony Mowbray’s side, Jackett wants to see his side challenging the sides in the upper regions of the League One title.

“Blackburn are a good side, of course they will be looking to bounce back,” Jackett said.

“We're Portsmouth, our aspirations are to meet anyone head on in this division.

“They made less mistakes than us and deserved their victory.

“But make no mistake about it, our aspirations are to compete with these sides.”
