BLACKBURN Hawks coach Steve Duncombe wants the carrot of topping the table to take his side to two NIHL Moralee Conference victories this weekend.

The Hawks are on the road at Solway Sharks tonight (7pm) before entertaining leaders Telford Tigers tomorrow (5.45pm).

Two wins would see the Hawks erase the four point gap between themselves and the Shropshire side and Duncombe is keen to knock the Tigers 'off their perch.'

And he wants the home fans to play a part in what he hopes will be a winning weekend.

"We know that if we win both games we will be top and that is a great incentive for us," said the Hawks coach.

"We are a good side at home, it is a big rink in Blackburn and that suits our game.

"Telford coming here on Sunday will be a tough game, they have not lost this season and have beaten us at their place already (7-0) but I think it will be a completely different kettle of fish at our rink.

"They have enjoyed so much success in recent seasons that it is about time someone knocked them off their perch and I want that to be us."

Tigers have won eight from eight this term and claimed the title in the now defunct English Premier League, a level above the Hawks, last season.

But Duncombe believes the Blackburn atmosphere can help his side end that record.

"The fans can play a massive part," he added. "We are getting some people coming up who used to watch Manchester and that is helping. The fans are loud and we want that on Sunday.

"Telford haven't lost many games in the last few years so if we can get ahead then maybe they won't be able to handle it."

Before the top of the table clash the Hawks head north of the border to face a Solway side who begin the weekend in fifth.

The Scots did beat the Hawks in a season-opening cup clash but Duncombe believes his side have learned the lessons of that defeat.

"I am 100 per cent confident that we can beat them every time we play them," he said.

"That is not disrespectful to Solway but I believe we have the players who can beat them and we also have the game plan now.

"It will be a tough game as they are a good side but I am confident we can get the win."

Hawks have a full strength squad to pick from this weekend.
