WHILE the Rovers fans may be forgiven for not wanting to watch highlights of Saturday’s defeat at Oldham, the players had a team meeting on Sunday to pick the bones out of their fourth defeat of the season.

But Rovers boss Tony Mowbray is hoping to now draw a line under the 1-0 reverse and respond in positive fashion against Plymouth Argyle tomorrow night (7.45pm).

The Pilgrims visit is one of two home games for Rovers this week and Mowbray is looking for his side to play on the front foot from the off against the League One basement boys.

He said: “We were all in on Sunday, went through the game and had a good chat about it. It’s always a collective, I want players to take ownership.

“It was not a clear the air meeting, it was to get some thoughts and opinions about changing the approach to those sorts of games and an understanding to why we played as we did.

“I think we have reacted from certain defeats by playing positively, on the front foot, high pressure football and gambling the game a bit.

“We will probably do that, gamble the game and hopefully the dice will roll for us and come out with another victory.

“If we don’t then I will talk through the reasons why but it won’t be through a lack of a positive approach and high energy performance where we will be positive from the off.”

On the approach against Oldham, Mowbray added: “It wasn’t too dissimilar to Scunthorpe and Shrewsbury away and I have talked about playing out of possession to protect the backline a little bit where we’re short of mobility.

“They understand, they know the dynamics of our team at the moment, they have been relatively comfortable playing how we have away from home because we have got results doing it.

“The day you get beat doing that it can create a negative vibe.

“We have to find a way that’s going to win football matches.

“If we win 1-0 every week then the supporters will accept us not playing like Man City and having total domination of the ball if we get three points, but I understand that you can’t keep playing like that and losing.

“Maybe it’s a wake-up call that you can’t keep going to places and playing out of possession and winning 1-0.”

Mowbray is set to make changes but will again be without Paul Downing (hamstring) and Corry Evans (ankle).

“I think that’s what happens, withthe ones who didn’t play, I have had one or two who came to see me and asking me if they are going to get an opportunity,” he said.

“We will have a look at it, look at a few different things and having watched Plymouth all afternoon on Sunday and looking at how they set up, I will have to give some thought to the team.

“If we win the game there will be no questions about the selection, yet if we lose the game then everyone will want to know why you picked that team.  That’s football.”
