HARRY Chapman felt Rovers delivered the perfect response to a poor performance at Shrewsbury Town by returning to winning ways against Rotherham United.

And the Middlesbrough loanee says he’s more than happy with his role as an impact substitute after coming off the bench to score his first goal for the club.

Chapman made the game safe with his goal five minutes from time, backing up a first-half strike from Marcus Antonsson, in the 2-0 win.

Rovers should have been out of sight in the first-half, but Rotherham were enjoying their best spell of the game before Chapman’s introduction with 20 minutes to go which helped Rovers over the line.

“A win is massive, we needed to bounce back after last weekend’s performance,” Chapman said. “It was a great response.

“We have shown that our home form isn’t as bad as everyone makes out and we are confident.

“First half we outclassed them, we played them off the park and they didn’t have many chances.

“In the second half they piled a bit more pressure on, but we were comfortable and our class showed.

“We’re here to win football matches and that’s what we did. We were delighted with the three points.”

Chapman has been used off the bench in seven of Rovers’ opening 10 league games, with his only starts coming in the Carabao Cup and Checkatrade Trophy.

While the fans are itching to see him given a go from the off, the winger is happy to sit tight and wait for his opportunity.

“It’s entirely up to him (Mowbray),” the teenager said.

“I’m not really bothered about not starting as long as the team is winning.

“The fans have taken a liking to me, it’s really nice, it’s been warm and welcoming and made me feel at home straight away.”

Chapman is now up and running in Rovers colours following his goal five minutes from time, firing home the rebound after his initial shot had been saved.

“It was a little one-two off the goalie,” he said. “I have been coming on and making an impact but it was nice to get the goal, but more importantly the three points.

“Goals just happen, they are always nice, but you have to be at the right place.

“They were trying to pile on the pressure, had a goal disallowed just before I came on and the second goal eased the pressure.

“At 1-0 the game is a bit iffy, but we saw the game off at 2-0.”

The goal was followed by his trademark somersault celebration.

Of it, he added: “I have always done it since I was six or seven, I have just continued to do it.

“Derrick (Williams) was about to jump on me, but I told him to back off so I had the space to do it.”
