BURNLEY striker Chris Long has joined League One side Northampton Town on a season-long loan.

It's a third loan spell at that level for Long, who had spells with Fleetwood and Bolton Wanderers last season.

The 22-year-old joined the Clarets from Everton in the summer of 2015 but he has so far made just 11 appearances for Burnley, with just the one start, without scoring a goal.

The former England youth striker, who has represented England at U16, U17, U18 and U20 level, has one-year left on his current deal at Turf Moor.

Cobblers boss Justin Edinburgh was delighted to land Long and believes his pace will be a major asset.

"Chris is a very good signing for us," said Edinburgh.

"He is a quality striker and possesses real pace which frightens defenders. He is a player who has already performed well at League One level, he knows the league and he knows he has the attributes and the quality to be a big asset to us.

"I know he has been a player who has interested a number of clubs so we are delighted we have been able to secure his services and we are excited about bringing him in to the squad.

"I think all we will be adding now is another goalkeeper which should complete a strong summer of recruitment for us, and we are happy with the balance of the squad."
