ROVERS round-off their pre-season friendlies with tonight’s trip to Carlisle United (7.45pm) and boss Tony Mowbray is looking for his side to continue their good practice.

The Ewood boss has seen his side rack up four wins from five summer matches, scoring 13 goals in the process, with Danny Graham’s strike giving them a 1-0 victory at Grimsby Town on Tuesday.

That made it back-to-back wins over League Two opposition following a win at Morecambe ahead of tonight’s trip to face a Carlisle side who will be gunning for promotion to the third tier this season.

Mowbray has changed his side regularly so far this summer and gave four players 90 minutes in midweek as he weighs up his options ahead of the league opener at Southend next weekend.

“The games come thick and fast,” the head coach said. “I gave them a day off on Wednesday, work hard on Thursday, go to Carlisle and then give them the weekend off and then it’s a fresh week in to the season, a full week of preparation going in to Southend.

“We will continue to build up their fitness, work on the patterns of play, and see how it goes.

“It’s about preaching good habits every day to them so that everyone knows their jobs, when we make the substitutions the players know their roles in the team and keep reinforcing it really.”

Elliott Bennett has played the most minutes of any Rovers player so far in pre-season, completing a full match in three of the five friendlies, with Paul Caddis, Darragh Lenihan and Charlie Mulgrew each playing two full games.

Lenihan missed the Grimsby win with a sore knee, but along with Corry Evans (ankle) should return tonight but Craig Conway remains sidelined with a hamstring injury and Scott Wharton is also absent.

Rovers face a Carlisle side yet to concede in their five pre-season games so far, in wins over Carlisle City (4-0), Penrith (5-0), Workington (3-0) and Blyth Spartans (3-0) before last Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Halifax.

They will give a debut to new signing Richie Bennett, who scored against Rovers for Barrow earlier in pre-season, though ex-Rover John O’Sullivan is a doubt.
