ROVERS are looking to bring in at least one more striker as boss Tony Mowbray weighs up how best to spend the remaining money in his budget.

Seven new players have arrived at Ewood Park this summer, with Mowbray looking to make at least two more additions before the window closes next month.

And following the departure of Anthony Stokes last week, strengthening his forward line remains a priority for the Rovers boss, despite the arrival of Dominic Samuel from Reading.

“We have our targets and have enquiries in at football clubs,” Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“It is always a delicate situation where we are going to spend the remaining money, what areas of the field, but I do feel that we need some additions, some strengthening up.

“We will have to wait and see what the enquiries come to in the next couple of days.

“We are getting there, I still think there is a long way to go but the boys are taking on board the information.”

Mowbray will look to utilise the loan market in his quest for more bodies. Stokes became the 13th player to leave Rovers since relegation, with the Ewood boss eyeing more numbers as he looks to build a squad capable of launching an immediate challenge for promotion back to the Championship.

Last season’s top scorer Danny Graham, and new boy Samuel, are the two senior strikers on the club’s books, with young prospect Joe Nuttall, 20, having also been brought in on a one-year deal.

And of his search for a new front-man, Mowbray added: “We are still looking. I do feel we need to add again to that area of the pitch.

“Dominic Samuel will help the balance of the team with his ability to run in behind and stretch teams and hopefully the goals that he’ll bring.

“If we get two more in then we can start looking at other formations with two strikers rather than one if we have enough to do that.

“I want to play lots of formations this year with lots of good players and give teams problems.

“As many good players as possible is the secret to winning matches.

“Hopefully a few more additions, hopefully before the season kicks off, but if not then we have still got a few more weeks on that.

“There are a few areas where we need to add and strengthen to make sure we don’t get found out by injuries.”
