ROVERS have signed striker Joe Nuttall on an initial one-year deal after impressing during a trial spell.

Nuttall scored five times in two outings for the Under-23s in wins over AFC Darwen and Ramsbottom United before being offered a permanent deal, which includes the option of a further 12 months.

The 20-year-old was also a second half substitute for the first-team in their wins over York City and Morecambe, and he is likely to be in the squad for Tuesday's game at Grimsby Town.

Nuttall was a free agent after being released by Aberdeen in the summer following two years with the club which saw him make just a handful of senior appearances.  He was also loaned out to Stranraer and Dumbarton.

The striker was previously on trial with Rovers in the summer of 2014, but made just three appearances for the Under-18s and wasn’t handed a deal.

But the former Manchester City man did enough this time around and will now look to push his claims for a first-team spot.
