WOLVES have 'parted company' with former Rovers boss Paul Lambert after just six months in charge of the Championship side.

Lambert left Rovers at the end of the 2015/16 season after failing to receive the assurances he wanted from owners Venky’s.

The Scot had been in charge at Ewood Park for just six months, and he leaves Wolves having been in the Molineux hotseat for the same period of time.

Lambert was appointed as Wolves boss in November, his first job since leaving Rovers, and won 14 of his 34 games in charge, leading them to a 15th place finish.

He raided Rovers in the January transfer window, with the signing of Ben Marshall, but despite forking out in the region of £25million on players, Wolves stuttered to a mid-table finish.

Speculation over Lambert’s future had been rife since the end of the season, and Wolves announced the news just before midday.

A club statement read: "Wolves and Paul Lambert have agreed to part company following a football review which took place at the end of the season.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Paul for his dedication and professionalism during his time at the club, which included some memorable victories, and wish him all the best in his future career.

"In addition, first team coaches Stuart Taylor and Rob Edwards, and Head of Sport Science Tony Daley, will also be leaving Wolves with immediate effect.

"As part of the coaching restructure, the club are currently in discussions with Pat Mountain regarding the possibility of him taking up a role within the Academy.

"Tony and Rob have given many years of loyal and committed service to Wolves, and the club would like to thank them for their substantial contributions over a long period of time.

"Along with Paul, all three departing members of the backroom staff leave with the club’s best wishes.

"A further announcement on a new Head Coach and backroom team will be made in due course."

It is now expected that Wolves are set to bring in 43-year-old Nuno, who left Portuguese side Porto by mutual consent, and is a close friend of agent Jorge Mendes who has close links to owners Fosun.

Nuno would become the fourth manager to take the Wolves hotseat since Fosun’s arrival last summer, succeeding Kenny Jackett, Walter Zenga and Lambert.
