PROMOTION back to the Championship at the first attempt is the sole target for Rovers head coach Tony Mowbray.

Rovers will be playing in the third tier of English football for the first time in 37 years next season after relegation to League One.

But after agreeing to continue in his role as head coach following positive talks with owners Venky’s in India, Mowbray wants it to be a one season stay in the third tier.

Mowbray is confident that he can be the man to return the good times to the club, having been impressed by the club’s infrastructure and facilities since taking charge in February.

“The target has only got to be promotion next season,” Mowbray told the club’s official website.

“To build a stable club that can then compete at the top end of the Championship and then hopefully somewhere down the line get back to the Premier League.

“The infrastructure at the club is good, there are some good people who work at the football club.

“I just need to add some direction of how I do things.

“I truly believe I can help this club get back to where it wants to be and help the supporters, who come and support the team, have a real pride again in Blackburn Rovers.”
