A GOAL from former Claret Junior Stanislas helped Bournemouth to victory over Burnley at the Vitality Stadium.

Defeat in the south coast, coupled with Swansea’s win at Sunderland, means Sean Dyche’s side are still not mathematically safe from relegation, although their huge goal difference over Hull remains intact.

If the Tigers fail to win at Crystal Palace tomorrow then Burnley will be sure of their place in next season’s Premier League on points as well as goals.

But this was a frustrating way to end what has been a tough season on the road, despite the win at Crystal Palace two weeks ago.

For two minutes late on it had looked like the Clarets would be able to celebrate as Sam Vokes glanced home an equaliser, but Josh King restored the Cherries advantage with five minutes to go.

It was an unchanged side for Burnley, with Michael Keane unable to take his place in the side after returning to training earlier in the week.

George Boyd had sent a snap-shot from inside the area just wide in the first minute but for the next 25 minutes it was end-of-season fare in the sunshine at the Vitality Stadium.

But while it was Bournemouth who had looked the more likely the Clarets will be disappointed the manner in which they conceded.

It was route one stuff not normally associated with the Cherries as Lewis Cook’s ball over the top found Stanislas, who had got goal-side of Stephen Ward, and he controlled the ball before side-footing a neat finish from 18 yards past Tom Heaton.

Burnley’s response to going behind was decent and Scott Arfield saw a shot from 18 yards blocked and then dragged a 25-yarder just wide on his left foot.

The Clarets best chance for a first half equaliser came a minute before the break when Ashley Barnes’ shot was deflected into Arfield’s path in the centre of the area, but Artur Boruc was out quickly to smother the winger’s attempted finish after he had taken the ball down.

It was Arfield who was coming closest for the Clarets and 10 minutes into the second half he cut inside on to his right foot and curled a 20-yard effort inches wide of the far post.

The hosts were still looking threatening and on the hour Lys Mousset planted a header from eight yards straight at Heaton before King turned inside Kevin Long on the inside left channel before blazing a shot high and wide.

Having introduced Andre Gray at half-time Dyche sent on Robbie Brady and then Johann Berg Gudmundsson to try and rescue a point and it was the latter who created the equaliser with seven minutes to go.

His floated cross from deep was glanced into the far corner by Vokes from 12 yards for his ninth Premier League goal of the season against the club where he made his name as a teenager.

That point would have made absolutely certain of Burnley’s safety but parity didn’t last long.

Ryan Fraser broke down the left and his cross found King, who had got in front of James Tarkowski, and he took a touch before slotting beyond Heaton.
