BOSS Tony Mowbray plans to meet the club’s owners, the Venky’s, in the coming weeks to discuss his future after Rovers' relegation to League One.

A win on the last day at Brentford wasn’t enough to preserve Rovers’ Championship status as rivals Nottingham Forest and Birmingham also picked up three points.

Mowbray was appointed Rovers head coach in February on an 18-month deal, but despite picking up 22 points from 15 games, wasn’t able to keep them in the second tier.

The head coach has spoken to a member of the Rao family on two occasions since taking charge and could travel to India to meet the owners.

“I will have some talks in the next week or two with the people who matter at this football club,” Mowbray said.

“Whether the journey for me continues or not. Let’s see. If it does, I can only see it being really strong if we can keep the right players.

“We will see how the summer goes.”

When asked if he would walk away from Ewood Park should he not receive the right assurances from Venky's Mowbray added: “That’s a headline I don’t want to see or talk about.

“What’s important is that I sit down and have discussions in the next week or two with them and hopefully they’re positive."

Rovers were backed by a terrific travelling following of 1,600 at Brentford on Sunday and Mowbray hailed the support.

“It’s disappointing for the club, for the supporters," he added.

“You could see from the supporters who came (to Brentford), they are very passionate about their club.

“Relegated clubs tend to shrink and people lose their jobs.

“It’s going to be a difficult summer, but one we have to be productive in on the recruitment side.

“We have to see what the next few weeks bring.”

Mowbray admits ‘things will become a lot clearer’ ahead of Rovers' League One campaign in the next week with players' futures set to be resolved in the coming days.

A number of Rovers players are out of contract while the club’s loan players will return to their parent clubs.

Mowbray added: “Looking forward, it’s going to be a huge summer of Blackburn Rovers. Recruitment, we’ve got eight players out of contract, five loans, we’ve got to recruit well and bounce back."
