SAM Vokes has told Manchester United that Burnley will take the game to them on Sunday as they bid to end the Red Devils’ unbeaten Premier League run.

The Clarets are seeking an 11th home league win this season and Vokes said the plan at the start of the season had been to turn Turf Moor into a fortress.

Having already beaten Liverpool and Everton among others and drawn with Chelsea, Burnley will seek to claim another scalp against Jose Mourinho’s men this weekend.

And it would be a sweet victory with United one game away from matching the Clarets 23-game unbeaten league streak from last season’s Championship campaign.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence at Turf Moor. We know what we’re about and we’ll take the game to them as we do every week,” Vokes said of the clash with United.

“We got a great point against them earlier in the season and stuck to our jobs there and there’s no reason we can’t do that this weekend.

“We wanted to make Turf Moor a fortress at the start of the season and I think we’ve done that.

“If we can do that on Sunday as well it will be great.”

The Clarets have picked up 32 of their 36 points at Turf Moor this season, and Vokes added: “It’s a big reason for us being in the position where we are. The game this week is one we’re looking forward too and one where we want to pick some more points up.

“It’s a big game for us at home. Our home record speaks for itself.

“We can take confidence from these performances and try and get something against them.”

Vokes was back in the side and back on the scoresheet at Goodison Park last weekend, where he partnered Ashley Barnes in attack and netted a penalty he won to draw Burnley level against Everton.

But it was ultimately another frustrating away day for the Clarets ash they slipped to a 3-1 defeat.

And while Vokes was happy to be back in the goals he was disappointed to see his side fail to pick up a positive result

“Personally it’s nice to get that goal, but I’m gutted we couldn’t see the job out because we put on a great performance and a good shift,” the 27-year-old added.

“We’ve had some big points away from home this year but performance wise that was massive for us (at Everton).

“We looked strong all over the park, especially first half when we got the ball down and played, and for a performance like that we were gutted we couldn’t see the job out.

“We’ve got five games left and we’ve got to take the confidence from the last few points we’ve picked up and we can take a lot of confidence from the performance (at Everton) into the United game.”

Burnley head into the weekend eight points clear of the bottom three with just five games to go, but Vokes insisted nobody is taking survival for granted.

“We don’t want to talk about it yet because it’s not happened, but if we do get there it will be a massive achievement and hopefully we can get it done sooner rather than later,” he said.
