TONY Mowbray feels Blackburn Rovers are giving themselves chances in games to pick up all three points and believes there remains plenty to be positive about.

Rovers suffered their first defeat under Mowbray at Brighton on Saturday and face another tough test against Reading this evening (8pm).

The head coach says his side will have to be ‘super organised’ against Jaap Stam’s team who regularly enjoy large spells of possession.

But despite being five games without a win, Mowbray says there is plenty to be pleased with.

“I think there are a lot of positives, there is a lot right,” he said.

“The football team has to stay mentally tough, know they are doing well and working extremely hard and we will pick up wins between now and the end of the season because of those qualities.

“Our main target is to win some football matches along the way, wherever they come – at Reading away, Barnsley at home, we will try and win every game.

“We should not get down about the defeats – you have to wait for the wins. You have to work extremely hard to give yourself a chance to win every football match and make sure you don’t find yourselves out of the match by being too cavalier too early on.

“We are trying to win games, and I think we’ve deserved more than what we’ve got in recent weeks, but a bit of naivety and bad defending in other games, missed chances, it’s not quite gone our way.

“But I feel that in every game we have given ourselves a chance to get three points.” Reading have won 13, and lost just two, of their 20 home games to date and enjoyed 70 per cent possession in their draw with Newcastle last month.

And Mowbray admits sides will have tried all manner of ways of trying to disrupt Reading’s flow without effect.

He added: “It won’t just be against us that they have a lot of the ball, I would suggest that against almost every team, maybe bar Fulham, they dominate the ball.

“They have won a lot of games and that’s why they’re fourth in the league, so whatever people have tried, and there are a lot of good coaches in this league who I’m sure will have tried every way, sitting off and counter-attacking, pressing high and trying to nick it off them, teams have done that and got beat.

“We will have to have a work ethic and organisation and then you need a bit of luck along the way, but it can be done.”

With games coming thick and fast, Mowbray said he would have liked more time to prepare for the game at the Madejski Stadium, but wouldn’t be using that as an excuse.

He added: “Reading are a different type of team to most in this league, they are very ball retention orientated and you have to be super organised against Reading or they can rip you to shreds.

“I would have preferred a few days on the grass, that’s not going to be the case, we won’t be doing too much with the players because we have to rest and recover mentally for this game, but we will get on with it.”
