BLACKBURN Rovers favourite Matt Jansen admits it was something of a surprise to see Owen Coyle relieved of his duties after the encouraging showing in Sunday’s FA Cup last-16 defeat to Manchester United.

However, striker Jansen, who played 182 times during a successful seven year spell at Ewood Park, admits that unless results picked up in the Championship then such a decision was always likely.

Jansen, currently in charge of National League North side Chorley, admits the Rovers job is one that he would love in the future.

But he added: “I thought they gave a good account of themselves against Manchester United on Sunday, so I’m a little surprised after that game that Owen Coyle has gone.

“But they are struggling in the league and unless that is going to pick up soon then the decision was inevitable.

“I love Blackburn Rovers and I loved my time at the club.

“I would love to do the job in the future; it’s one that definitely interests me.”
