MARVIN Emnes accepts Blackburn Rovers will be written off in most quarters ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup fifth round tie with Manchester United.

But the Swansea loanee says there will be no lack of determination among the Rovers players to cause an upset against the holders.

Emnes could return to the starting line-up with Sam Gallagher sidelined through injury, and the 28-year-old admits it’s a game he would love to be involved in.

“People will say that we will get beaten, but we see it different, for us it’s a big game,” the Dutchman said.

“It’s always nice to play in these games, and show yourself, and as a team, who we are and what we can do.

“We will be underdogs. The most important thing is that we enjoy the game and try and win it.”

Rovers take a break from league action to host United in the last-16 after wins over QPR and Blackpool.

Emnes is available to feature against United, having not played for his parent club in the competition, despite being refused permission to play in Rovers’ third round win at Loftus Road last month.

He will be hoping that he has done enough to force his way in to the side after three impressive appearances off the bench since re-joining on loan from the Swans on deadline day.

And the 28-year-old hopes a positive display against United can be the springboard Rovers need ahead of their crucial Championship run-in.

He added: “If we win the game it will be good for ourselves, but staying in the league is more important.

“I think the break (from the league) has come at the right time, but we have a big game on Sunday and if we can improve there then we can take it in to the next game.”

Emnes looked to have drawn Rovers level at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night when his shot, which came back off the bar, appeared to have crossed the line.

But the decision went against Rovers as they left Hillsborough empty handed to drop to 23rd in the Championship table.

“Week in, week out, it seems to be the same thing. We fight hard for the points and we played well (at Sheffield Wednesday) but in the end we got beat again which was really frustrating,” Emnes, who has come off the bench in the last three games, told the club’s official website.

“I think we got back to 2-2, but the referee said it wasn’t a goal and then the situation with Hope Akpan was clearly a goal.

“When my shot hit the bar I saw it bounce down and from the distance I was away I thought it was a goal.

“I think it’s even harder (to take) because it seems like it’s happening week in, week out when we really need the points.

“If we keep playing like that, and keep fighting for the points, then we should be fine.

“But it’s not going our way at the moment and we need to change that fairly soon. There’s enough fight and quality in this team.”
