Man of the match

Stephen Ward 8

Impressive performance from the left-back who defended well when confronted with Alex Iwobi’s pace and made some superb blocks. Used the ball going forward as well and tried to be an outlet on the left.

Tom Heaton 7

Nothing he could do for the goal. Wasn’t forced to make exceptional saves but did everything to his usual high standard.

Matt Lowton 6

Defended well against Alexis Sanchez but was caught in possession leading to the break from which Arsenal won their decisive corner.

Michael Keane 8

Solid as ever at the back under plenty of Arsenal pressure. Read the game really well at times to sniff out danger.

Ben Mee 8

Helped Keane keep Giroud quiet all afternoon and made some crucial interception on the ground and in the air. Harsh call on penalty.

George Boyd 7

Tracked back really well to offer support to Lowton. In his best form of the season at the moment.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Dean Marney 7

Covered an awful lot of ground and drove Burnley forward at times. Hopefully his knee injury isn’t as bad as feared.

Jeff Hendrick 6

Caught in possession high up the pitch early in the second half. Not quite at the level he’s hit in recent weeks.

Steven Defour 7

Another accomplished display in an usual position. Went close with a good free-kick, forcing Cech into a save.

Ashley Barnes 7

Gave Koscielny and Mustafi a difficult afternoon. Did well to win the penalty.

Andre Gray 7

Showed good pace and strength against Arsenal’s central defenders. Calm with the penalty to equalise.
