OWEN Coyle hopes Marvin Emnes will return to Blackburn Rovers to play his part in the second half of the season.

Emnes saw his loan spell with Rovers expire on January 15, and has been back with parent club Swansea City.

The South Wales side’s new manager and former Rovers coach Paul Clement is keen to take a look at the Dutchman before deciding if the will leave the Liberty Stadium.

However, Rovers remain hopeful that Emnes, who played 20 times for the club, will be back at Ewood Park.

“We have spoken to Swansea extensively,” Coyle revealed.

“With Paul Clement coming in they wanted to have a look at him for a week or two and I totally understand that.

“But a selfish part of me obviously wants him back at Blackburn Rovers so that dialogue continues.

“Hopefully we will hear some more news on that and he can play his part in the second half of the season.”

Rovers have until January 31 to bring Emnes back to the club, but Coyle hopes the forward’s future can be resolved in the coming days.

Having already played for Swansea in the Checkatrade Trophy prior to his move to East Lancashire, FIFA’s three club rule would prevent Emnes from representing any other club during the 2016/17 season.

And Coyle hopes that strengthens their position to bring Emnes, whose contract with the Swans expires in the summer, back to Ewood Park during the winter window.

He added: “I think it’s fair to say there will be a resolution over that by the weekend.

“There is only one of two things that can happen. Either Paul Clement wants him back at Swansea to play, and if he’s not going to play then with the FIFA ruling I’m led to believe that he can only play for Blackburn.

“He can’t play for three clubs in the same season, so if Paul Clement decides that if Marvin isn’t going to play for him then hopefully we can try and reach a successful conclusion that can see him back at Blackburn Rovers for the second half of the season.”
