BURNLEY might be faced with a capital double header this week as they try to end their winless away start in the Premier League, but they are continuing to turn Turf Moor into a fortress.

Victory over Bournemouth made it five home wins this season and George Boyd, who scored the crucial third goal, said the Clarets were turning Turf Moor's rustic charms into an advantage.

Burnley are determined to make life tough for all of their visitors this season and that includes making the most of their surroundings as well as turning the tempo up on the pitch.

"It’s not like any other Premier League Stadium," said Boyd. "We take advantage of that, it’s great, and we love playing here.

"Nobody likes coming here, the changing rooms aren’t like anything they’ve ever seen before, so it’s a good place.

"We use it all to our advantage. Even in the Championship last year teams didn’t like playing here. I think it’s the way that we play as well; we’re in their faces right from the start and nobody likes it.

“We’ve got that set mentality that we can beat anybody. Even City last week; they scored two lucky goals and we played well. We mixed our football up which they didn’t like. We feel on this patch we can beat anyone and hopefully we can pick up three points away from home and get higher up the table.

“We were second in the league on home form prior to City so it’s great. Nobody wants to come here and we want to carry that on for the rest of the season."

The task for the Clarets now is to transfer that home form onto the road and they have two chances to break the duck this week with visits to West Ham and Tottenham.

Boyd is bemused by Burnley's struggles away from home so far, and knows replicating their Turf Moor performances is key to changing that.

“The gaffer says that the pitches are the same size – it’s weird," the 31-year-old said.

"I think it’s just the atmosphere here. We don’t play any different away from home. We’ve got to take that intensity and that system away from home and get a few points.

“I think there were signs at Stoke last week because it was more like us, we were more like a team and the system worked better. I’m sure we’ll go in to these two away games full of confidence.

“We’ve got a big game against West Ham. They’re down there and they’re not having the best of times so if we can get to the crowd early and make them feel a bit nervous there’s no reason why we can’t get that first win."

Boyd's strike on Saturday was his first goal of the season, and he added: “It’s nice to get that monkey off your back and it came at a good time because it gave us that two-goal cushion. I think we fully deserved it."
